The Vergnano Sincro product range has now been extended with the new synchronised tapping attachments, specifically
designed to optimise the performance of our Sincro series taps.
Process description
- Synchronised tapping is a modern process, in which the rotational and axial movements of the spindle are synchronised
through the numeric control of the machine
- Specific tapping attachments for synchronised tapping are equipted with micro-compensation. In contrast to standard
compensated tapping attachments, in which the compensation extension is large, synchronised tapping attachments can
be defined as “almost rigid”. As a result, synchronised tapping is often referred to as rigid tapping
- The micro-compensation reduces the axial forces generated on the tap due to small pitch errors and mechanical play
- The synchronisation between machine, spindle and tap permits high cutting speeds
- The Sincro series taps have been specifically designed for synchronised tapping. They can be used only for rigid tapping.
If used with compensated tapping attachments, which allow the tap to free float, the aggressive cutting geometry can
generate high axial forces. This may cause the tap to advance more than the requested pitch resulting in oversized threads
- All Vergnano taps can be used for synchronised tapping but the Sincro series is developed specifically for this type of
application. This results in higher tool life and higher productivity due to higher cutting speeds.

Compensation difference in conventional and synchronised tapping |
|
Requirements for synchronised tapping
- CNC machine with synchronised rotational and axial movements of the spindle
- Spindle with sufficient rotational speed in order to reach the requested cutting speeds also with small diameter taps
- Synchronised tapping attachment with micro-compensation
- In the case of taps with through-coolant, specific spindle and attachment for this application
- In order to work at the requested cutting speed during the entire machining process, the spindle must be able to accelerate
to full final speed before the tapping process begins
Sincro tapping attachments
The new tapping attachments of the Vergnano Sincro range have been designed for synchronised tapping. They have a
minimum axial compensation both in compression and in traction. This compensation completely eliminates the difference
between the tap pitch and the pitch given by the numerical control (CNC) of the machine.
Thanks to the Sincro tapping attachments, it is possible to use taps with specific geometry for high cutting speed. The problem of
oversized thread will be completely canceled. The greatest advantage is obtained with high spiral taps, for deep blind holes.
The Sincro attachments have been balanced at high rotational speed, between 10.000 and 15.000 rpm.
All the Sincro attachments can be used with taps with internal coolant.
Technical features of the Sincro attachments
- Micro-compensation in traction and in compression: ± 0,5 mm
- Compensation obtained with two spring packs
- Maximum coaxiality error of the tap referred to the tapping attachment: ± 0,02 mm
- Maximum cooling pressure: 80 bar
- Easy interchangeability of the tap, thanks to the screw nut
- Possibilty of using standard machine taps, with shank in h9 tolerance
